Applications

LOGISTICAL BUILDING:

The facility included a number of high racking locations and a general marshalling area for picking.

Original lighting scenario included 490 no. 400W metal halide fittings achieving a connected load of 220kW and mounted at 12m. The building operated a 16 hour 6 day a week schedule resulting in 5,000 operating hours per annum.

Original lighting consumption per annum was 1,100,000 kWh.

Lighting levels were in the order of 180 lux and, while not particularly low, created specific operational issues in terms of glare and shadowing.

The Patina™ solution installed is based on a one for one replacement utilising the Patina™ ASDV-PS fitting with a total number installed of 490 resulting in a connected load of 110kW.

The system was monitored for its energy efficiency and, although the building was considered to be a very busy environment, the connected load of the Patina™ system amounted to 330,000 kWh.

The amended lighting consumption p.a. identified that, although the building operated on a 16 hour shift arrangement, sections of the aisles for a considerable length of time were unoccupied. The daylight availability within the building was also harnessed which resulted in an overall saving of 770,000 kWh resulting in an overall 70% reduction.

The new light levels achieved amounted to 220 lux with greater uniformity. The 110 kW of connected load removed from the system provided an indirect benefit maintaining an ambient temperature of 18° centigrade.

PRODUCTION BUILDING

This multinational facility produced medical devices and, as a consequence, lighting was a particularly vital element of the production process.

Issues in terms of uniformity and glare were noted together with colour shift of the metal halide light sources at the end of their rated life.

216 no. ASDV-PS medium distribution luminaires were installed on a one for one basis achieving a circuit load of 48.6 kW. Daylight savings and occupancy setback control achieved a lighting consumption p.a. of 173745 kWh which was recorded as a result of monitoring.

The new lighting levels amounted to 420 lux with a high colour rendering achieving a reduction in lighting consumption p.a. of 458055 kWh (72%).

PROCESS BUILDING – BREWING INDUSTRY

The processing buildings of one section of this brewery utilised in excess of 980 no. 5 ft. twin 58W corrosive proof enclosed fittings.

The operation was based on 24 hours 7 days a week.

Arrangement: the original lighting equipment was never switched off which resulted in a circuit load of 132 kW for the section of the brewery which was reviewed.

The lighting consumption p.a. amounted to 1148400 kWh which had been monitored through a building management system. Lighting levels were in the order of 150 lux.

Operations within the brewery noted that while lighting levels were extremely important, occupancy in general was particularly low, estimated to be in the order of 25% of the annual burning hours.

980 no. PLOR154-CS luminaires were installed resulting in a circuit load of 54.8 kW. The system was monitored and an annual lighting consumption from the new Patina™ system amounted to 119190 kWh.

This achieved an annual lighting reduction of 1029210 kWh (89%).

The system included integrated sensors which monitors occupancy and allowed for varios setback functions.

Lighting levels in the order of 250 lux were achieved, being a marked improvement on the original T8 switch start technology. Maintenance has also been enhanced due to the extended life of the T5 light sources in conjunction with Osram Dali technology.
